THE first intake of the first skill-training course open to the public in Belait yesterday received certificates of completion at the Institute of Brunei Technical Education’s Sultan Bolkiah Vocational Campus (IBTE SVSB) in Seria.
Five participants of the ‘Fashion Design & Dressmaking’ course received the certificates for the 42-hour course, which was held from October 5 to 31.
The female students wore the dresses they made during the course while receiving their certificates.
The course was held by IBTE SVSB in collaboration with the Continuing Education Training (CET) division. A senior officer from CET, Hjh Nimah Hj Ahad, attended the last hour of the course to present the certificates to the participants.
In an interview with The Brunei Times, Hjh Nimah said she was proud of the participants and planned to conduct more training courses due to the success of the first intake.
“Alhamdullilah, most of the students managed to pass the course, and I hope the new skill will provide them with new opportunities, especially in venturing into the tailoring business,” she said.
Hjh Nimah said skill-training courses such as the Fashion Design & Dressmaking course require the participants’ full attention as they are guided by an instructor every step of the way.
“Most skills are built through practical methods within the workshops and we require full commitment of time and effort for these free courses,” she said.
Hj Nimah added that the CET division is encouraging more youths to take part in these courses in order to acquire or develop skills and increase their employment opportunities.
IBTE SVSB is conducting two other courses in November – Basic Fashion ‘Kurung’ and Fashion Shawl — taught by an instructor from the Fashion Design & Dressmaking Department at SVSB.
