The Continuing Education and Training Division, Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE CET), the Language Centre of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam co-organised the 32nd Japanese Speech Contest held on 13th March 2019. The speech contest was held at the School of Aviation, IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus, and comprises of two categories; the group presentation category and the speech category.
The speech contest aims to encourage the contestants to demonstrate their proficiency in the Japanese language to the public. The contest also serves as a good opportunity to deepen mutual understanding and foster a greater friendship between the people of Japan and Brunei Darussalam.
In the group presentation category, each group, comprising of 2 students and 1 teacher, has to make a presentation about Japan in English. The group presentation category aims to increase the contestants as well as the public awareness and knowledge about Japan. A total of 7 groups participated in the group presentation category.
The speech category was divided into two categories; the beginner category and the advanced category. The beginner category is for those who have studied the Japanese language for less than 2 years. A total of 9 participants competed in this category. Meanwhile, for the advanced category, participants must not have stayed in Japan for more than a total of 2 years since the age of six. The winner of the advanced category will be invited to Japan in October 2019. A total of 14 participants competed in the advanced category.
