On Monday, 7th November 2022- We had the honor of having as our first guest speaker, Puan Hjh Nurul Haniah Binti Hj Md. Jaafar, CEO of Progresif Sdn. Bhd speaking to our IBTE School of Building and Technology Services graduating students at the Lecture Theatre.

On Tuesday, 8th November 2022- For the morning session, we had EGNC for a registration and activation session of e-Darussalam account.
Tuan Agus Muslim, Managing Director and CEO for Nextacloud Technologies Sdn Bhd, spoke to IBTE School of Information and Communication Technology and IBTE School of Business graduating students  on how “Obstacles Are Opportunities in Disguise”.
Mr. Reuben Chin, Manager of Start-up Development at DARe (Darussalam Enterprise) gave an insightful introductory talk on DARe and the various programs/workshops available for aspiring business owners.
For the afternoon session, Puan Sarinah Binti Ziziumiza, Co-founder of Rumine Corporations, shared with IBTE School of Energy and Engineering Central and IBTE School of Business graduating students, regarding how she set-up her own company and what drives her to do so.

Representatives from the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) are here to present their findings on Brunei with regards to The ASEAN-ROK TVET Mobility Programme. Brunei is the sixth country the team field visit. The aims of the ASEAN-ROK TVET Mobility Programme are to strengthen selected TVET sectors and programmes in ASEAN through harmonisation, enhancement and development of: (1) quality assurance; (2) qualification standards; (3) capacity building of TVET personnel; and (4) intra-ASEAN student mobility through internships and faculty exchange. The Programme is envisaged to contribute to reducing the gaps between the demand and supply of vocational skills and improved human capital to remain competitive. In doing so, the Programme would also contribute towards improvement of TVET image and increase awareness on TVET prospective contribution to employment, education and business productivity.

In attendance to the meeting also included representatives from SEAMEO-VOCTECH, the Permanent Secretary Office (Higher Education), International Relations Division, and the Private Education Department of the Ministry of Education. 

169 Books were donated by the People’s Republic of China Embassy.

Her Excellency Yu Hong, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei, presented the books to Dr Hj Zamri Sabli, IBTE CEO, who delivered the welcoming speech. The books donated consisted of information regarding China’s history, culture and national development.

These books will help our students learn more about China, especially useful for the students who are studying under the Diploma in Refinery Operator and Diploma in Control and Automation Engineering, as part of their studies the students will head to Lanzhou Petrochemical Polytechnic in China or work in Hengyi Industries at Pulau Muara Besar.

Three Shenzhou-14 Chinese astronauts (Taikonauts), who are currently in space, took part in a dialogue with students from ASEAN countries via video link. The event was held in the Lecture Hall of School of Aviation, IBTE SSRC, Jalan Utama Berakas on the 1st of November 2022.

100 students from IBTE, PB, UBD, UTB, and UNISSA were selected representing Brunei to be part of the event, co-hosted by The People’s Republic of China Embassy and IBTE, this was the first time that the Taikonauts had a direct dialogue with ASEAN teenagers.

Teenagers from the ten ASEAN countries had the opportunity to ask the three Taikonauts questions. Taikonauts Chen Dong, Liu Yang, and Cai Xuzhe are currently on a mission at the Tiangong space station, and the trio answered questions on life in space, scientific experiments, and the growth that they have experienced.

Simultaneous interpretation between Chinese, English and local language of participating ASEAN countries allowed everyone to express their ideas easily and better understand one another. 

Opening remarks were made by Her Excellency Yu Hong, Ambassador of The People’s Republic of China to Brunei, the guest of honour for the event was Yang Berhormat Dr Datin Hjh Romaizah Hj Md Salleh, Minister of Education. In attendance were also senior officials from Ministry of Education, and IBTE senior management, as well as the vice chancellor, rector, director of the participating students institutions.
