TVET ACADEMY: Promising Practices in TVET

6th April 2023, Thursday – Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) has achieved another milestone as one its initiatives on teacher training and development have been internationally recognized as one of the Innovative and Promising Practices in TVET under the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

UNESCO-UNEVOC acts as a clearinghouse for innovative and promising practices in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Each practice shows how TVET can be designed and delivered to address contextual challenges, presents the enabling conditions for success, and provides a snapshot of the positive impact on communities.

As IBTE strives to be a community that pursues excellence in teacher training, continuous professional development (CPD), and academic research and development; the establishment of TVET Academy was a necessary decision with its main role to equip teachers with knowledge and skills on instructional content and delivery.

TVET Academy is the first of its kind in Brunei to offer teacher training programmes and CPD courses for TVET teaching staff with the aim of improving the quality of education and training. IBTE aims to:

  • Provide and facilitate training on instructional content and delivery;
  • Provide mentoring support;
  • Coordinate and facilitate professional development courses;
  • Conduct and coordinate academic research and development; and
  • Offer sustained and integrated teaching support services.
